Gammelgården Museum

Step back in history.

Meaning “old farm” in Swedish, the Gammelgården Museum is the only open air museum devoted to preserving, presenting and promoting Swedish immigrant heritage in the United States. In buildings that have been carefully preserved and restored, visitors can get a glimpse of the daily lives & artifacts of these immigrants and participate in events and classes.

The main exhibit in the Välkommen Hus and the historic buildings are CLOSED for 2020. There will be no seasonal celebrations, no classes or programs.  The Scandia Butik Gift Shop is open (starting Sept. 3) by appointment only,  Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays 10am, noon & 2pm. Sundays, noon & 2pm.  Enjoy a safe, relaxing personal shopping experience with up to 4 of your family or friends.  All Scandinavian sweaters are 25% off — limited supply, limited time, no combined discounts.

Cinnamon Bun Day:
October 4th is officially Cinnamon Bun day in Sweden. This popular, tasty celebration is such a favorite among Swedes, they have given kanelbullens their own dag. This year is the 40th year for Kanelbullens Dag.

Scandia is celebrating its third Cinnamon Bun Day on Monday, October 5, 2020.

As in other years the Gammelgården Museum, Scandia-Marine Lions and the City of Scandia have joined forces in celebration of the day. Cinnamon buns will be distributed in the early morning hours (6am – 8am) at the corner of Oakhill Road and Olinda Road in the center of Scandia. You might want to make sure your morning commute goes through there early.  (City of Scandia website)
